Brigadier (Retired) General Tom Landwermeyer

Brigadier General, USA (Ret) Tom Landwermeyer is a West Point graduate and decorated Army Aviator who served 33 years in the U.S. Army. His distinguished career included leadership roles from Platoon to Deputy Commanding General, Support of the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea, his last tactical assignment. He retired in 2009, with his final position as the Dir of Operations for the Dep Chief of Staff for Installation Management on the Army Staff in the Pentagon.

He continued his public service as an Army civilian on the Army Staff for two years before transitioning to the non-profit sector as COO of the Armed Services YMCA, focused on supporting active-duty military families.

In January 2017, Tom became President/CEO of Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), responsible for achieving the national nonprofit’s mission to build and donate specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, enabling them to rebuild their lives. Under his leadership, the organization has expanded its impact, completing over 400 homes across 45 states, and currently has more than 60 projects underway nationwide.

The Veterans HFOT serves have sustained injuries including multiple amputations, partial or full paralysis, blindness, severe burns and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives in a safe and fully accessible home. HFOT is 100% publicly funded, receiving no state or federal funding, and since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents out of every dollar spent has gone directly to HFOT’s program services for Veterans. Tom and his wife Marie are very proud of their 4 grown children – a daughter and three sons (one son is currently serving in the Army) – and one grandson, Luka.
